Topic: COM PORT INCORRECT
|
By: economics64 | Posted on: Jul 9 2008 at 01:35:40 AM | Hello everyone!
I just downloaded a trial version of the EasyDnc software, and everytime I try to send a program to my CNC machine an alarm pops out "Attention
COM PORT; Incorrect Run Setup" After reading the questions from others I found a few answers relating to my situation. I followed the Technical Support advice and did what was recomended. a) I right clicked on my computer icon, b) selected properties, c) Hardware, d) Device Manager, and the only reference close to the COM ports was; Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Once I extend the icon by pressing the plus sign I see the following; 1) Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller, 2) Standard OpenHCD Host Controller, 3) Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller, 4) USB Composite Device, 5) USB Root Hub, 6) USB Root Hub, 7) USB Root Hub. I`m lost and big time. What should I do to make this software work? I`m using a new 17` widescreen HP Pavilion Laptop.

Windows will see the USB adapter as soon as you plug it in to the computer but you will also need to install the device driver. The `driver` makes the USB adapter behave like an RS232 com port.
Did your USB adapter come with a CD ? Did you install it ? When you`ve installed the hardware correctly you`ll see a COM port appear in the device manager usually in the "Ports Com&LPT".

The cable that I got did not came with a CD driver. I just purchase the cable (RS 232 to USB ) and that is it. I`m trying to find a driver online to see if this fix the problem. I need to get this fix right away. Thank you very much for all your help. Have a great evening.

www.prolific.com.tw
follow the link to support > downloads etc. find the drivers for the PL2303
Years ago I bought one of those but since then I`ve used/borrowed/found etc all different types of usb/rs232 cable and every one worked just fine with the PL2303 driver.
That should fix it. Once the driver is installed you should see the Com port appear in the device manager and then easyDnc can us it.

I will give it a try to see if I like it. So far so good. Thank you so much to all you folks for the help and support. God bless all.
