Topic: Ethernet, and Macs
|
By: Guest | Posted on: May 15 2009 at 06:23:15 AM | I noticed you have a Mac OSX version. Will it work with Ethernet? I use Lantronix boards for the RS232 at the machine end (including handshaking).
Macs have not had serial ports for over 10 years. Yes, I know there are USB-serial adapters, but they are annoying, and not electrically isolated. Ethernet is isolated, and much more reliable.
Thanks for any info. | |

Ethernet com ports are usually supllied with a device driver which makes the remote port appear as if it was a local port. For example in Windows once the driver is installed the remote ports appear in Windows Device Manager just the same as any other physical ports and applications such as easyDnc don`t know the difference.
In the case of MacOS you`d see all `detected` ports in the dnc setup window. If the port appears there then it should work. | |
