First, let me say thanks to your company for offering and affordable program to allow an XP or Vista machine to communicate with our Fadal VMC 15`s.

We are testing your program now for 60 days. Please do not change that! It is a major reason we are going to purchase your product!!!! Pretty much, it is a done deal. My boss is delaying the purchase until the new tax year. lol

Anyway, right now, after using the program in a simulated test environment under VMWARE, I would like to see a simple way to backup and restore individual machines and their settings.

Example - 10 machines. Each one could be created, named, tweaked, tested and when everything is perfect and ready...we could just backup each "profile" to be saved in case of machine failure, PC failure and the profiles could be restored as needed. Also, it would be smart to have the option to back them up and restored as a group. Maybe 2 or 3 machines are unique and their profiles are best saved separately but 5 other machines are generic and could be saved together for simpler restoration.

Whatever. A simple click menu system should be done to allow for the profiles to be "imported or exported" into easydnc. lol

Thanks for the suggestion - We have thought about adding a button to backup the machine profiles but we always come back to the same thing - everyone has a regular backup routine anyway  to backup all your CNC programs so I`d suggest simply adding the easyDnc program folder to your regular backup procedure. Unless you`re storing any other data in there that whole folder will be less than a megabyte so no reason not to backup the whole thing.

Agreed, many people (smart ones anyway) use backup programs/routines.

But I was thinking more about CNC machine profiles and being able to manage, test, change, etc. different profiles.

Again, not backup....but individual CNC machine PROFILE MANAGEMENT...that is the thought process I had.

Example - In VMWARE, I can backup up my virtual test systems or I can use a 3rd party program. But VMWARE allows me to adjust, tweak and manage my machines in ways no backup program could.

Besides, again, it would not be about backup, it would be about profile management.

Your ini file method is nice and simple. SIMPLE IS GOOD! I love simple! But it is LIMITED. Ex. - no way to restore one single machine. It is an all or nothing prospect. Yes, I can backup those ini files, create new ones, etc and probably could cut and paste sections but the ini file is too primitive for proper management and does not allow simple addition or removal of a single or group of machines.

It is all or nothing.

Maybe create a forum sticky poll that your users could vote on whether or not they feel it to be a worthwhile endeavor.

Create a folder on your computer - give it a name something like TEST

Copy everything from the easyDnc folder into the TEST folder.

Start easyDnc via the easyDnc icon in the TEST folder - play around as much as you want, everything you do will not affect the data in the original program folder.

If you ever decide that you prefer the profiles in your test folder then somply copy everything back into the original program folder.

There`s no limit to the number of seperate program folders you can create so make as many as you wish and play around as much as you want.

Yes - we do the same thing - we have 5 seperate folders allowing us to start the software 5 times on the same PC and feed data to all 5 machines at the same time. (we`re not absuing our license are we ?)

Hello Bob,

No, you`re not abusing your license - What you`re doing is the best way to multitask (feed more than one machine at the same time)
