Topic: Machine icons in educartion
|
By: Guest | Posted on: Sep 2 2009 at 08:28:02 PM | Why can't we use custom machine icons I'm dealing with students and getting really tired of answering the which machine question maybe the correct picture would clue them in

In the meantime though can't you give each machine a meaningful name and the name below the icon would indicate which machine it referred to ?

By: Jock | Posted on: Sep 3 2009 at 09:10:46 PM | "Can't" "won't" what's the difference.?
I sense sarcasm in your words ?
I think they're saying that the software does not offer that capability. The software "Can't" do that.
They probably could make the software do it but with Microsoft releasing new versions of windows every 5 minutes they are probably quite busy developing more important upgrades for the rest of us.
The glue in Vista isn't even dry yet and Microsoft are already scrapping it and rolling out the next version - Windows7.
So, you guys at easyDnc I for one would like to thank you for over 10 years of FREE upgrades - looking forward to the next release 4.7 or whatever you're calling it.
Free upgrades without bells and whistles - yes please.

But somebody said they took this feature out because of the problems that people had in sizing the icons.
My only complaint is that the pictures are bloody hitachi hicells, and at a previous job i had buckets of problems with the bleeding machines.
Everytime I use easydnc the icons bring back BAD memories...
By: Jock | Posted on: Nov 9 2009 at 10:44:40 AM | I can see the problem with the icons - I took photos of my machine but by the time I shrunk it to the required size it just looked like a square mess - too much background detail.
Maybe at least a choice of icons would be an idea. Maybe a simple block image to indicate whether it's a lathe or a vertical or horizontal machining centre etc would be a nice idea.
By: Support | Posted on: Nov 9 2009 at 10:49:11 AM | There is method in our madness.
easyDnc5 is being released soon - that has some multitasking capability - drip feed more machines at the same time etc - and because al this happens from one control panel we're going to change the icon colors to indicate what's going on in the background - green icon to show the machine is ready, red icon to show there's an error, blue indicating it's in the middle of a drip feed etc etc.
In future versions we may even add some machine activity monitoring - again - icons changing color depending on what's going on - we couldn't do any of that if we allowed users to use their own photos.

As always, keep up the good work.
