was wondering what the maximun number of machines was that the software will support still evaluating the trial version which seems to only allow 4

No, the limit is 14 (also on the trial) - The bar just below the four machines can be dragged downward to expose more space and you can keep adding up to 14.
You can add more again - Maybe you have another group of machines - simply create another folder and copy the program file (The file with the DNC icon) into that folder, open it and you can start again with another 14 machines.
You can create as many folders as you wish.
You can also run as many copies of the DNC software at the same time so you can feed more machines at the same time if you wish.
