I need a list of minimum requirements for easydncxp . We are upgrading a few computers and the tech guys need specs for the apps they will run.

Also , I was wondering if you made any headway on the side by side file comparison feature yet . I was told it would be included in a future update .

Last, I wanted to comment that files recieved by the pc from the cnc overwrite existing files with same name , as opposed to a numbering system (eg- 1234.nc , 1234(1).nc , 1234(2).nc ) or something similar . which is ok , except that multiple copies (versions) of a particular program cannot be stored in the recieve folder .This forces you to manage files more often to keep various versions , which may defeat the remote feature . ( Every time you send a program to pc , you have to go over right away and manage the file to be sure that THAT version is kept )

... just a comment . Thanks

Hello kaudette

Computer Spec. In theory easyDncXP will run on any computer capable of running Windows95 or above. So, if you`re talking about `upgrading` then I`d suggest there`s not going be any problem.

Side by Side comparison. Yes, is scheduled for inclusion in an update but can`t say when. Hopefully some time this summer.

Receiving files from CNC. Most common method is for you to use easyDnc (2.2) setup to set seperate receive and transmit folders so that data coming in the computer doesn`t overwrite good data.

I think you misunderstood me about the overwriting thing...

I DO have seperate recieve and transmit folders , but I was speaking ONLY about the recieve folder. What I was trying to get across is that without a feature to seperate recieved files with the same name , you can`t keep more than one version of a program in the recieve folder , which forces you to put the program away sooner than later so it is not overwritten . ( Many times changes are situational not intended to be permanent , but need to be kept in case same situation arrises , procuring the need for multiple versions of a single program ) That is what I meant by "defeating the remote feature" .If you gotta walk over to put files away right away .. what do you gain with remote ??

Similar software that I have used included a recieve "window" where ALL recieved files are stored (even if same name) so they can be sorted at any time without one version interfering with or overwriting another .
Usually the files are stored in a "window" and sorted by date and time , then renamed numerically and archived when overwritten .
This allows the user to sort and/or overwrite/archive at his leisure , not immediately following the job.

Again , this is NOT a complaint by any means.. I am VERY happy with this software ...just a comment/suggestion!

You`re right, I did misunderstand. I kind of wondered why you wanted more than one copy of the same file in the same folder.

Now I understand I`ve never heard of any users doing it the way you describe. Most just send the files from the machine and if they make an adjustment of the file at the machine then they send it again overwriting the first one. In your case though you want to keep a kind of revision history, IE a copy of all previous revisions until you get round to checking them.

I`ll have a think about what you`re suggesting and if any other users read this then would they add some comments to this thread and if enough people say they`d benefit from such a feature then we`ll see what we can do.

Saving files remotely and renameing the original file to like .bak1, .bak2, .bak3... etc. Maybe have a choice of limited or unlimited. I like saving them with the most recent with the lowest number but others I have seen do it the other way saying bak1 is the 1st backup, bak2 is the 2nd backup etc. But that causes a problem for me when I decide to clean things up and only want to get rid of the backups that have more than three. I normally sort files by there extension to delete.

Having thought about this I`d suggest an update would have an option in easyDnc`s Setup allowing the user to overwrite or rename incoming files.

The overwrite would be the default and doesn`t require any explanation. The rename option would do like you say, it would add a number to the end of the file name instead of the optional 3 letter extension FILENAME.001 .002 etc etc (we`d suggest this 3 digit number/extension because many other software programs, CAM or whatever, still prefer 8.3 DOS naming convention.
