Topic: pauses during drip feed on newer computer...
|
By: KBob | Posted on: Apr 9 2009 at 10:10:51 AM | I`m upgrading the current machine (a Win XP, P4 1.7GHz, 256Mb ram PC) to a (more) modern machine (Win XP, Core2Duo 2GHz, 2GB ram) and leaving everything else as-is.
The problem is that on the modern machine there are pauses when the 4-axis machine is waiting for data on its serial port; back on the original machine there are no pauses.
I suspected it might be because the new machine is dual-core and old one single-core, so I edited the boot.ini to force it to single cpu mode, but that did not cure the problem.
At the moment the old machine is back in place, but it isn`t going to last forever. Any ideas?
Thanks,

How long are these pauses - just a second causing the machining to stutter or many seconds ?
Does it pause often after almost every block/line of data or less often, for example on a long machining process maybe once every couple of minutes or so ?
Maybe email me.

On the good machine the controller (a Yasnac) flashes up "IN" on its screen briefly when it`s grabbing the next load of blocks, the machine itself does not pause. It`s grabbing data all the time like this, with several seconds of machining, then a second (or thereabouts) to grab some more data.
On the bad machine the controllers puts up "IN" and sits there... sometimes for several seconds... then it goes out for a few seconds, machines a bit more, then goes back to the "IN" mode...
The settings between the two PCs are identical; the connection to the machine is unchanging; I`m most puzzled by this to be honest!

Result is pausing during download. There has to be some difference between the one that works and the two that don`t but I`m just not seeing it.
Most strange.
