Topic: PC choices for EasyDNC?
|
By: Andrew | Posted on: Oct 9 2012 at 04:53:32 PM | Greetings; I recently had my drip-feeding PC go gunnybag, and was quickly provided with license code to load onto another laptop. (Thanks, as I had an expired trial license on that unit!)
What I would really like is a small to mid sized touch screen tablet (with USB) that I could mount on the side or under my Fanuc 10M controller. I have been looking at what is available, it seems my needs are Windows op, capacitive touch screen, (2) USB ports, wifi.
Are there any reasons this wouldn't work? I have been led to expect many new offerings this fall for Windows tablets using the Windows 8 operating system. Does anyone have any comments or expectations for how it will behave for EasyDNC? | |

This will be based on a type of processor (ARM) that will likely have limitations on what desktop programs will run on it.
The other version of windows 8 will the the "Pro" versions which are for the Intel Based desktop and laptop computers.
So, if you can find a tablet computer running Windows 8 "Pro" (not RT) then that should work OK.
The guys at easyDnc tell me that they're about to start rolling out a pre-release version of easyDnc version 5. This will be Windows 8 compatible as well being backward compatible to all version since windows 98. ( also capable of running in true 64 bit mode on any 64 bit versions of windows.
Screenshots I've seen show nice 'fat finger' sized buttons for allowing everything to be done using touch panel on touch capable computers. I guess they are thinking win8 PRO based tablets. As well as those large "all in one" touch enabled desktop computers where you might want to hide the keyboard and Mouse under the desk.
