Topic:   Runtime error 75

This is unusual... We have been running DNCRemo for sometime now. Everything has been working flawlessly. Today an operator had a problem loading a program and called me. We sent the request program from the machine to the PC but it would tell us "TX Failed". I researched "TX Failed" and suspected file names and such. I couldn`t find anything wrong there so I decided to check the file location (In the machine properties) and when I exited the properties screen got a runtime error 75 (File access error) which also closed the DNCRemo program. As I researched more, I found that every machine was displaying the same issue. I rebooted the PC several times but dito, same problem. Out of curiosity I signed on as an administrator and everything worked fine. I then checked to see if our MIS dept had been doing any updates to the PC and possibly changed some rights but struck out there also. We ended up getting around the problem by upgraing the user rights to a power user. Anyway, everything is working again (with user rights upgraded to power user) but I`d still like to know what happened. This has been pretty much a hands off PC since installing Remo. Any Ideas?
Thanks for any help.

The fact you`re saying that it`s been working all this time does kind of suggest that the user that was logged in at the time did not have write permission on the data folder )The folder where you`re storing your cnc programs received from the CNC.

It`s quite common for a computer in the machine shop to stay with the same user logged in for months but then if for some reason the computer is shut down and another user logs in then strange things can happen becuaew the different users have different pemissions.

Making everyone into a power user might not be the ideal solution.

One solution might be to go to the data folder (The folder where your CNC programs are stored), right click the folder, select properties > Security and add a user called `Everyone` with full access rights just to that folder.

A better solution would be a little more selective. Have a master folder where files are read FROM (and sent to the CNC, this would contain your live proven programs. This folder could be owned by admin and read only to everyone else. Then have another folder (files sent from the CNC back to the computer). This would be `Unproven` files. Make this folder `Everyone` full access. You`re an admin user so it`s up to you to check files before putting them into the live `proven` folder available for download to the CNC.

To answer your original question - nothing`s changed in the software so I can only assume that a different user logged in with different access permissions.

Sorry I didn`t get back to this post sooner but I was out of town. I had to attend a show in Chicago at the Mori Seiki Facility. FYI, The show was great.
Regarding the issue, I checked the login. On PC reboot the login is defaulted so the only way to log in as someone different is to go into the control panel and do it thru users. Even doing this should not hamper the operations since all users have access to these folders. I also checked the security settings on the folders to see if they had been altered but all were still set at "everyone". I realized nothing changed on the software because I`m the only one that would do the update and I knew there hadn`t been any. I guess I was just shooting at straws posting the problem, I was hoping maybe you had heard of some other instance of this happening or might have had another idea regarding what happened. I hate when I can`t find a logical explanation why a problem arose. In any case, we are up and running. I will try to find some time in the next week or so to see if I can dig into it further mainly to satisfy my own curiosity.

Thanks for your response and Keep up the good work.
You have a GREAT product.

Thanks, Gunner. Still sounds to me like a permission based thing. as if ownership of folders or files has changed preventing `normal` users from doing things.

Please come back and let us know if/when you find anything.
