Topic:   Runtime error

By: JeffPosted on: Jul 17 2009 at 12:34:30 PM
We just updated to ver. 4.1 and getting "runtime error 1000 communication port not open ". While getting this, it takes about 10 trys to send a program complete. We have been using this for about a year with no problems, until the update. Any Ideas? Thankyou

Hello Jeff - No, never heard of this before - the main difference between 4.0 and 4.1 is the editor. The actual port handling hasn't changed. Were you previously using 4.0 ?

You didn't change anything else ?

If you're certain that nothing else has changed (please tell us even if you don't think it relevant) then you should be able to downgrade to 4.0 - assuming you were previously using 4.0 ?

www.dncxp.com/sp40k.exe

(you'll need to type or copy that into your web browser)

We'd be interested in knowing if that fixed your problem. -also any other information you have about what you did/steps you took so that we can try to reproduce the error.

Yes, we were using 4.0 yesterday morning and nothing was changed. The error occured the minute we upgraded. We are able to send programs to the machines most of the time with no problem, but "everytime" we close out DNC program, it gives that same error message.

We like the the new Editor. Thanks for responding so quickly

Right - so the software works correctly when you're actually using it but when you're finished and you close the program you get that error.

I'll have a look to see if I can reproduce that error and have an update released.

We downgraded from 4.1 to 4.0, and we don't receive the error now. When using 4.1, we had problems sending and receiving programs. Sometimes it takes a few trys. The error always pops up when closing Easy Dnc using Ver. 4.1

When you send a file to the CNC a red [Stop] button appears and a progress bar indicates 0% to 100%

When the transmission is complete the [Stop] button dissappears again.

If you quit the program while the [Stop] button is still visible then you get Runtime error 1000

When you send a file to the CNC does the stop button dissappear at the end or is it still visible ? Click the [Stop] button before closing the window - does that stop the runtime error happening ?

Alot of times when we send a program to the machine, it will just say 98%, and stay there. But the program was completely sent to the machine.

Before you send the file scroll down to the bottom of it and take a look at the tail end of the file. Is there anything at the end such as comments etc.

So, if the actual program ended, for example, with

M30
%

but then if below that there was more text then what's happening is that easyDnc is trying to send ALL the data but the CNC has closed its port leaving easyDnc faithfully hanging on to the rest and in theory it'll wait forever in case the CNC decides to open its port and take in the rest of the data.

Some cad programs add comments or additional instructions etc to the very bottom of the file but because they're after the %, or other EOF symbol the machine won't accept them. Of course easyDnc doesn't know that the machine doesn't want the data so it'll sit forever till you tell it to stop - or the machine opens its port again to take in the data.

You can click the easyDnc stop button or, to save going back to the computer, just hit the CNC's input button again and that'll open the port and clear the buffers.

Upgraded to 4.1 again, made sure programs end correctly. Still gives runtime error. We feed 4 different machines, and it gives the error on every machine everytime upon closing the DNC program. Even if I cue it up to send, and cancel it "before" sending(clearing the buffer) it will give me the error also, after closing DNC. Basically it gives error evertime DNC is closed when using 4.1 Thanks for your help.

I just looked at the end of the program thru the new editor, And it reads as follows. M30 DC4 NUL. Where does the "DC4 NUL" come from ? Not visible when viewing in send mode. Or if I bring it up in Word programs.

Thanks Again

The only way I can re-create the error is to exit the program while the red [Stop] button is visible. If I click the [Stop] button and then exit I don't get the problem.

I susppose you could delet the DC4 etc although I don't think that'll help.

DC4 and NUL are hidden control codes that're only visible when using our editor. That shouldn't be causing the error.

You don't have a problem sending or receiving files - you only see the error when you're finished and shutting down the software.

and

We'll soon be releasing new versions 4.7/5.0 of the software which make a total change to the way ports are handled

so, if you can live with 4.0/4.1 I'd rather we crack on with the release of these new versions and see if that fixes your problem.

Thats fine, not giving us any downtime. We will be looking for the new release

Thankyou for your assistance
