I have 8 cnc machines with RS-232 ports, connected to a switcbox at the windows xp end. Have installed 8 serial ports to the computer and need software to connect programs from the XP to the cnc using different com ports

I imagine you`ve installed an 8 port multiport card ? Maybe a PCI or a USB ?
Once it`s installed and you`ve installed the device drivers which were supplied with the adapter then your additional RS232 ports should appears as standard com ports in windows.
Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > PortsCom&LPT
You should now see a list of all the new com ports.
If you do not see a list of com ports in that window then the device drivers for your 8 port adapter did not install correctly.
Once the additional ports appear in windows then you can use them in easyDnc.
Don`t bother making any changes to the com ports via control Panel/device manager - all changes are done via easyDnc`s setup.
easyDnc`s autoPort scan only works up to com6. So if you want to autodetect cnc settings on higher ports I`d suggest doing that via com1 and once settings have been detected simply switch the cable into the higher port and change the port number in easyDnc.

What happens if we want to drip feed to more than one machine at the same time.

You have two options -
1. Start more than one session of the easyDnc software
2. Use a different version of the software - MultiTasking easyDnc REMO. http://www.dncremo.com/tour9.html
